How to Decorate a Functional Office Space

Decorating an office is a tricky business. You want to make the space look nice, but you also need to know how to decorate the room so that you can get things done efficiently. Try using some of these decorating tips to add life and functionality to your office.

Keep a Clean Desk

Only keep essential items on your desk. Clutter does not mean that you’ve been hard at work. It just means you haven’t taken a break to clean up after yourself. Ideally, you can learn how to decorate your desk area so that you don’t feel tempted to leave coffee mugs, unnecessary folders, and other items sitting out. If you have difficulty with this, look for a desk that has more than one top. That way, you can keep the area right in front of you all business while sending less important items to higher or lower levels.

Use the Walls

Many people find that they work more efficiently when they have a clean office that gives them plenty of space. You don’t need a big room for this. You just need to learn how to use your walls properly. Walls can do more than hold pictures, mirrors, and coat racks. Try using reinforced floating shelves on your walls. You’ll have more room to keep files, books, and other materials, but you won’t have to worry about losing floor space. Also, try relying on wall-mounted lights instead of floor lamps. Every bit of space matters when you’re trying to make a small office feel larger.

Personalize to Your Taste

Build Into the Walls

Look Down

Use small baskets and bins beneath beds, bench seating, and home-office desks.  Baskets are a decorating necessity.  They are stylish, and they maximize the storage you have on the floor, on a shelf, or in your bathroom.
